What is still public from v0.3.17 onward?
The public repository remains available for learning, review and building from source yourself; for later installers and version information, the official website and GitHub Releases are authoritative. The retained public source should not be treated as the complete corresponding source of the latest product installers.
Exception: the general localization support from 0.3.19 was ported to the public repository once, together with translations of the public edition’s existing interface. It does not include private Pro runtimes, licensing services or new Pro features, and it does not resume ongoing synchronization. The 0.3.22 Release provides only installers and release notes; the “Source code” archives that GitHub generates automatically contain the retained public source, not the complete source of that product version.

Start with the official source and release history
The Prism Browser Community source repository contains the app documentation and development materials; the Releases page provides the public release files; issues and reproducible reports can be submitted to the project’s GitHub Issues.
Installers and kernels are published for different purposes. Regular users should choose the app installer and do not need to compile Chromium; developers building it themselves should follow the repository instructions and tag for the matching version (for a first Chromium build, 32 GB of RAM and about 300 GB of SSD space are recommended).
What the fingerprint kernel is made of
The bundled Chromium 144 fingerprint kernel is compiled by the maintainer: it starts from the fingerprint patches of fingerprint-chromium, combines them with the platform build recipes of ungoogled-chromium and adds Prism’s own consistency patches. The Pro Chromium 150/153 kernels port these patches to the corresponding Chromium source versions. Fingerprint settings do not rely on injecting scripts into web pages: Prism passes each profile’s configuration to the kernel as launch arguments. See Fingerprint kernel for details.
MIT and third-party components
The Community-owned code retained in the repository is licensed under the MIT License. Chromium, ungoogled-chromium, fingerprint-chromium (BSD-3-Clause), Electron and other third-party dependencies keep their own licenses. Check the notices in the corresponding source version and distribution package; do not assume the entire dependency chain is MIT-licensed. The local Pro agent, the MCP adapter layer and the licensing service are not in the public repository. The Prism Browser name, logo and icons are not licensed with the source code.
Free features, Pro and public source are three different things
Community provides local profile management, fingerprint and proxy configuration, bulk management, extensions and migration. Pro adds Chromium 150/153 kernels, the multi-window synchronizer, a local API, scheduled tasks and MCP AI control. Community being free does not mean the latest product source stays public.

What “local-first” means, in verifiable facts
Browser profiles, cookies, proxy credentials and browsing history are stored on your device by default. Activation, license renewal, announcements, ads and update resources need a network connection, and the website also queries GitHub for public release information. “Local-first” does not mean never going online.
Fingerprint test results change with website rules, hardware and network conditions. When you report an issue, record the version, time and specific fields. Neither open source nor passing a test once is a promise of permanent results.
